McLane Walk Behind Reel Mowers are manufactured in the USA and designed for precision cutting, durability, and long-term reliability. These mowers are specifically engineered for premium turf varieties like Bermuda, St. Augustine, and Zoysia.

The Classic Series are equipped with front caster wheels. Caster wheels allow you to pivot and turn the mower with almost zero effort. This is ideal if your yard has many curved flower beds, trees, or tight corners. Because there is less surface area contacting the ground, there is also less friction, making the mower feel "lighter" during operation

The Classic Series front caster wheels have a few drawbacks, and the biggest is scalping risk. The caster wheels are independent from each other and are less forgiving than a roller. If one caster wheel falls into a small dip or a sprinkler head hole, the entire reel drops with it, gouging a brown "scalp" mark into your lawn. Caster wheels can also bounce on uneven ground, leading to a "washboard" effect in the grass. Finally, caster wheels are unable to create striping in lawns.

The Classic Series 7-blade reel shines with taller grass. If you are keeping your lawn at 3/4" or higher, the larger spacing between blades (in comparison to a 10-blade reel) is better-able to gather the taller grass and feed it to the bedknife. With fewer blades and cuts per revolution, the reel is also less likely to "bog down" in overgrown grass. This lower clip rate (fewer cuts per inch) is less-suited to lower lawn heights.

The Classic Series has several widths and engine options available. Both the Briggs & Stratton ("B&S") and Honda engines are "industrial-grade" engines which cannot be found on equipment in big-box retailers. The B&S engines are more economical, and can be easier to work on, but are louder and vibrate more than the Honda engines. The Honda engines carry a premium price, but deliver better starting, lower noise, and longer life.

  • B&S 5.5 GT -- est. 3.5 HP gross -- 127 cc
  • Honda GX120 -- 4.0 HP gross -- 118 cc
  • B&S 9.5 GT -- est. 6.5 HP gross -- 208 cc
  • Honda GX160 -- 5.5 HP gross -- 163 cc

The Classic Series is an ideal choice for: VERY flat lawns where scalping risk is low, cutting relatively higher (lowest possible cut is 1/4") (ideal cut height 3/4" to 1-1/2"), tight turns, or irregularly shaped lawns with obstacles.
